Apartment Dubrovnik Center...a whole lot moret han just a place to stay

When you stay at Apartment Dubrovnik Center you get a whole lot more than just a beautiful old apartment in the centre of the old walled city of Dubrovnik, in one of its loveliest narrow laneways. You get to experience the hospitality, charm and huge personality that is Stijepo, the owner, who gives you the local flavour like few others could.

Not only did Stijepo organise a taxi to meet us at the Dubrovnik marina at the end of our yacht charter, he came out with the driver to personally welcome us. We arrived quite early in the morning before the apartment was available, so Stijepo organised for our luggage to be stored at a friend's restaurant nearby and proceeded to spend over 2 hours giving us a personal tour of the city.

I should point out that when it comes to luggage, the old city of Dubrovnik with its steep and numerous steps can be a challenging place to haul your case. However Stijepo carried a couple of our bags, probably totally over 45kg (I definitely wasn't travelling light), up the steepest of steps like he was carrying a couple of small handbags. I suspect the nickname of 'king kongs' for his sons are very apt.

He then proceeded to buy us coffee and ice-cream at the best places, whilst pointing out all the restaurants we should try during our stay (and his recommendations were spot on), he also shared his family's history in Dubrovnik and his own personal connection with this lovely city. We were all touched by his account of the hardships he and his family, and so many had endured during the war, and were grateful to have been offered such a personal account.

Whilst we did talk about the serious and hard times in Dubrovnik's recent history, there was a whole lot of laughter too during our ad hoc and totally unexpected tour. Stijepo constantly apologised for speaking English so fast, but it was his continual humorous nuances, jokes and agile use of the English language that kept us on our toes.

Truly great place to stay

This place is a real gem. Location wise, there is no better in Dubrovnik. a 5 minute easy stroll from the best end of the old town, close to the old harbour (where excursions to Lokrum, Cavtat depart), close to the beach and also shops, bakery, restarurants etc.

The view from the terrace where you can eat breakfast is incredible and one which would not be available in even the most expensive hotels. Uninteruppted views of the old harbour, town and islands.

The rooms which are set in a beautiful terrace garden full of blossoming trees, are small, but immaculate and the same views can even be seen from the kitchen window.

As others have said however, these apartments are made by Stijepo and his family who completely include guests in their family life whilst you stay. Stijepo offered to wash clothes etc, provided many recommendations etc and is on hand constantly to provide a full travel rep service if needed. What touched us is that Stijepo would come round with plates of food, fruit and drinks from time to time, beyond what you get from any package holiday.

Dubrovnik is a truly enchanting place, a bustly old town with architecture equal to that found in Venice and other european towns. The restaurants are superb and some of the bars are great for people watching. The old harbour is so very pretty and Dubrovnik is kept immaculate and respected by Tourists and the locals alike.

This was our first time in croatia and we were taken aback by the friendliness of the people and the beauty of the Town.

If we had stayed anywhere else (Gruz/Lapad etc) then we may have found it to be too busy with traffic etc. IF you stay here, you only need to see the best parts.

I really cannot recommend Lavanda and Dubrovnik highly enough.

Magical, Friendly Dubrovnik

DUBROVNIK - Lavanda Apartments

Dubrovnik is all that you think it is and more. A beautiful city with magical streets, houses and public buildings but what can make or break your holiday is the accommodation and your encounters with local residents either on trips, in restaurants and cafes or on the streets.

Lavanda apartment took these worries away it is a breathtaking location over looking Lokrum island and the Old Town. This is the view everyone wants and 20 times a day someone will stop opposite the apartment and take a photograph of the Old Town. The bakery is 2 minutes away, the supermarket 5 minutes and the beach is only 3 minutes away however the biggest asset of these apartments is the owner Stijepo (or Steve for short). This man is a walking encyclopaedia of Dubrovnik and the best restaurants from pizza to posh but the very best thing about him is that he is so friendly and warm. He will tell you the most inexpensive place to eat, and get you a discount! He will tell you about all of the available excursions and suggest which ones will suit you. Everyone knows him and likes him and the taxi transfer he arranged from the airport to the apartments and return was the smoothest operation I have ever encountered on a holiday transfer. From meeting the taxi driver at the airport to being dropped off at the apartment was like being an A-list celebrity on your way to the Oscars.

Although we were “lucky” enough to come across the coldest day in Dubrovnik for 80 years (in June!) and had 2 days rain thrown in it was undoubtedly one of the best holidays I have had in the last 40 years.

Apartment Lavanda is perfect place to stay

We really enyoyed our time in Dubrovnik. It had been brilliant staying here. It was more of everything than we could have expected; location, teracce, sea view, distance from the beach, old city. The driver brought us to the door of their house which was perfect for us and our havy luggage. This is a definitely the best location in Dubrovnik! Thanks to Ivana and Stijepo for information and for wonderful welcome; wine, juice, cold water, flowers, gift... We will reccommend apartment Lavanda to any friends who may come to Dubrovnik and we hope ourselves. Ivana and Stijepo have a new friends in Canada now.

Perfect location but first beautiful people and the best service

We have enyoyed our stay in this unique city and apartment. It was more of everything then we could have expected, hospitality + attention ( rose, fruits, vin, city map, gift...) The apartment is perfect and very good equiped. We will recommened this apartment to all of our friends becuse that was the best part of our holiday in Europe.

Dubrovnik is a really really wonderful city, a real pearl on the Adriatic sea,but we can assure that it would not has been the same without Ivana & Stijepo and huge hospitality. Thanks a lot them for indications, for the free parking place,for cleaning the apartment, for helping us in taking baggages, for wonderful dinner at theirs home with beautiful terace... We enjoyed at the romantic caffee overlooking just one minutes from apartment. We will come back because Ivana & Stijepo making our stay in Dubrovnik so lovely. We will certainly recommend this apartment to friends.

The only place to stay in Dubrovnik

My wife and I stayed at the apartment during our stay in Dubrovnik in May. Stijepo was gave us a wonderful tour and was so helpful. We stayed their for 2 nights at the beginning of our trip and enjoyed the beautiful street and wonderful location. During our trip in the rest of Croatia, we were in a motor scooter accident and Stijepo was such a lifesaver. Upon returning to Dubvnik he met us at the bus station, took us to the hospital and stayed with us for 4 HOURS to translate and make sure we were okay. He then went BACK to the hospital later in the evening to get a copy of my medical records. He even found us another apartment near the city center without stairs. Then, when we left early because of our injuries, he met us at the gate and arraged a taxi to the airport. He did all of this out of the goodness of his heart. Stijepo is one the nicest people we have ever met. It would be a mistake to stay anywhere else but at the Apartment Dubrovnik-Center!!!!
